Deputy Minister Urges Director General of Tax to Focus on Reform

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Finance Mardiasmo, said on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, that he is not focusing on setting the tax revenue target for the new director general of tax. Instead, Mardiasmo claimed that he is focusing on the institution's management reform.
Earlier, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo set a tax revenue target of nearly Rp 2,000 trillion (around US$166.5 billion), highlighting a huge tax revenue potential in Indonesia.
"The President will grant a reward for the Directorate General of Tax if it can achieve the target," Mardiasmo said.
Mardiasmo, who is also the head of the director general of tax selection team, underlined that the institutional reform should be the main priority the directorate general of tax. In other words, he expected that the new director general of tax will focus on conducting bureaucracy reform.
Mardiasmo believed that the tax revenue target can be achieved, if the bureaucracy reform runs smoothly.
