More Landslides in Banjarnegara Force Hundreds to Evacuate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Banjarnegara's Vice Regent, Hadi Supeno, said that Banjarnegara regency has been hit by more landslides following the torrential downpour over the area since Tuesday afternoon, December 16, 2014.
"Landslides have been reported in three areas, which includes the village of Tlaga in Punggelan district, Kertosari in Kalibening district, as well as the village of Gintung in Karangkobar district," said the Vice Regent in Karangkobar, Banjarnegara, on Tuesday evening.
According to Hadi, the landslides in Tlaga has necessitated the evacuation of around 400 residents, while 120 residents in Kertosari have been forced to leave their homes although landslides have yet to reach populated areas.
"In Gintung, 30 families have sought refugee because they were afraid of what had happened in Jemblung," said Hadi, who also said that the trunk route which connects Dieng, Banjarnegara, and Pekalongan have been cut off due to the landslides.
Meanwhile, the Head of Search-and-Rescue Operations at Jemblung, Lt. Col. Edy Rochmatullah said that his team has managed to recover 64 bodies from beneath the rubble.
"We managed to find eight bodies and parts of a foot during today's operation," said Edy.
