TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Tedjo Edy Purdjianto, said that the recent shooting incident that killed five civilians in Enarotali, Paniai, Papua, has been resolved using local customs. Local residents and security personnel have agreed to reach a peaceful resolution by burning stones.

The case occurred when an army vehicle was driving past a number of local residents with its lights turned off. The locals, attempting to inform the driver about the lights, were physically abused by the army personnel. The following morning, some angry locals marched towards the Local Election Commission Office, Paniai Police Station, and Military Command Center, where shots were fired and five civilians were killed.

In light of the incident, Commissioner from the National Commission of Human Rights Otto Syamsudin, suspected the army's involvement. Otto revealed that some of the early testimonies from the witnesses stated that they saw a man in green uniform, which is the color of the Indonesian Army uniform, beating the locals.

On the other hand, Minister Tedjo said that an investigation is still ongoing. "[The incident] must be investigated. If there is any indication that the army and police were [involved], we will uphold justice," said Tedjo.
