Pertamina Begins Testing Arun-Belawan Gas Pipe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, yesterday started the operation of the Arun-Belawan gas pipe. In the test phase, Pertamina received a gas allocation of 185 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from Exxon Mobil.
"We hope to meet to meet energy demand of the people in North Sumatra and Aceh," Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said through a written statement.
The 350-kilometer gas pipe project that began construction on August 2013, he explained, has a capacity of 300 MMSCFD.
Pertagas director Hendra Jaya said the construction process is on schedule. Once the test phase is completed, the Arun-Belawan pipe will enter its commercialization stage in the first quarter 2015.
