TEMPO.CO, Surabaya – Blackberry Indonesia plans on focusing on Blackberry Messenger (BBM) market share in the country, as the company is confident that social media will not replace BBM’s role in Indonesia, which has become one of BBM’s largest markets.
“We do not compete directly with social media because BBM is used for nearly everyday chatting,” Blackberry Indonesia senior media sales manager Iip Muftach said on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.
Pollster Nielsen’s latest survey has revealed that 79 percent of smartphone users prefer BBM for chatting. Some 200 million people worldwide are using BBM and 50 million of them are active users.
Blackberry Indonesia has also officially introduced the Blackberry Passport in Surabaya on Tuesday, targeting the work segment and businessmen.
“This product is packed with a Qwerty keypad, which not only has a physical keypad but also a touch function. This combination can reduce typo frequency of up to 74 percent,” said Ardo Fadhola, Blackberry’s senior country product manager.
The Blackberry Passport, which sells at Rp9.6 million, will be launched at a special exhibition at Ciputra World Mall in Surabaya from Dec 19-21, 2014.
