TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The red carpet of 2014 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) was stretched on Saturday, December 6 in Palembang Sport and Convention Center, Palembang. Since the venue is near to Palembang Icon, one of the biggest malls in the city, people swarmed around the location to spend their Saturday night.
Despite of two-layer safety barriers, hundreds of spectators – mostly teenagers—had waited since five pm local time for the chance to see their favorite stars walking on the carpet.
Indonesian actor Nicholas Saputra, who arrived at around half past six, became the first to spark hysteria. Fans were screaming both his name and the name of character he had played in a succesful movie.
Other Indonesian movie stars such as Dian Sastrowardoyo, Samuel Rizal, Chico Jericho, Reza Rahadian, Abimana Aryastaya, Ario Bayu, and Vino G Bastian, extended the scream of excitement.
What makes the event more special was the attendance of the Indonesian President Joko Widodo. He came with first lady Iriana Widodo and Tourism Ministry Arif Yahya. This was the first time a president attended the FFI.
“We should be proud, because President Jokowi came specially for FFI,” said Kemala Atmodjo, Chairman of 2014 FFI Organizer.
