TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several car bombs exploded at two main thoroughfares in Baghdad that are populated by the city's Shiite residents, killing at least 15 people and injuring 47 others, according to the testimony of several police sources as well as emergency responders.
The blasts occurred around 06:30PM local time at two different markets in Sadr City, one of Baghdad's northern districts that are known to be jam-packed, on Thursday nights, December 4, 2014 according to an AFP report.
At least nine people have died and 35 others injured by the first blast, while the second explosion claimed the lives of a further six people and injured 22 others, said a police officer near the scene.
The Iraqi capital have been rocked by several bomb explosions in the past couple of days - including a number of suicide bombings - the majority of which has been attributed to the hardline Islamist group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
