TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Ratiyono, said that Jakarta needs 22 new sports arena to host the upcoming Asian Games in 2018. The construction and renovation will be carried out using a joint budget from the central and regional government. "The development is currently waiting for the president's [instruction]," said Ratiyono.
One of the arenas that will soon be renovated is the Rawamangun Sportshall in East Jakarta, which already has international standard. Ratiyono said that the athletic course and the velodrome in the sportshall only need minor repairs. Same thing goes for the Gelora Bung Karno Compound and the Pulo Mas horse track.
Moreover, Jakarta plans to construct a new wushu arena in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Pluit, North Jakarta. In addition, the capital also plans to construct a new Clean, Humanistic, and Dignified (BMW) Stadium in Papanggo, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, which will be finished in 2017. The BMW Stadium compound will be built on a 66.6 acres-wide area, consisting of a stadium, urban forest, green open space (RTH), parking lot, a lake to host water sports event, and two football fields.
