TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Transportation Community (MTI) Danang Parikesti said the central government and the Surabaya City administration should review the tramway development plan in Surabaya.
“The tramway development in Surabaya should be postponed. The city has yet had supporting infrastructures for the tramway,” Danang told Tempo on Friday, November 28, 2014.
Danang added that the traffic in Surabaya was still dominated by private vehicles, pushing away public transportations from protocol roads.
Danang suggested that the city administration should build an integrated public transportation network, as well as adding the number of public transportations, to support tramway development. Danang projected that the network development would last for two years.
“When the network is available, the government can build the tramway in 2018,” Danang said.
Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan earlier said that he and the Surabaya administration will boost tramway development. Jonan revealed that the tramway would be managed by state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia.
