Hanoi to Host ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference in December

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plans to hold its' first ever ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference (1st ACPC) from December 8 to December 9, 2014, in Hanoi, Vietnam, following the rapid growth of online consumer marketplace in the region, which comes with considerable potential economic and consumer benefits as well as challenges - especially in relation to the mobile capital environment, made possible by the rapidly changing technology.
The 1st ACPC will involve a variety of stakeholders - which includes researchers, NGOs, private practitioners and business associations, and other relevant organisations involve in consumer protection enforcement - that will deliberate on a wide range of topics on current issues and challenges relating to financial transactions, consumer product safety, e-commerce and development of consumer redress mechanisms.
The Conference is organised under the auspices of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection and hosted by the Vietnam Competition Authority, as well as ASEAN – Australia Development Cooperation Program Phase II (AADCP II) as part of a wider scale project entitled "Supporting Research and Dialogue in Consumer Protection." The Conference is expected to generate fruitful discussions and exchange of views on the development of consumer protection in ASEAN and engender discussions on the future direction of regional consumer trends and challenges.
