TEMPO.CO, Singapore – Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and her Singaporean counterpart K. Shanmugam on Wednesday agreed to enhance trade and investment cooperation.

According to Foreign Affairs Ministry’s press release received by Tempo, exports of fruits and vegetables have a big chance in Singapore, while Singapore agrees to increase investment in Indonesia, including in maritime.

Retno and Shanmugam also discussed employment opportunities in formal sectors such as the caregiver industry and agreed to tighten cooperation in training diplomats.

The meeting led to a visit by more than 25 Singaporean entrepreneurs to Indonesia this week. There will also be a signing of MoU on Global Collaborations for Packaged Power Generating Sets and Heat Recovery Solutions between Cyclect Energy Pte Ltd and Berkat Manunggal Jaya Indonesia in Semarang.

Shanmugam is also scheduled to visit Indonesia in two weeks to sign an agreement on youth and sports.

Singapore is a close neighbor of Indonesia with bilateral trade value of US$42.26 billion in 2013. It is also Indonesia’s third largest trade partner.

Singapore’s investment in Indonesia last year reached US$4.67 billion. Singapore-Indonesia relations have been constructively established since 1966, especially through the modality of Leader’s Retreat, a six-monthly meeting of foreign ministers and six working groups for bilateral economic cooperation.
