TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Djohermansyah Djohan, Director General of Regional Autonomy at the Ministry of Interior Affairs, said that the government regulation on regional head election has been sent to president Joko Wodidi on Thursday, 27, 2014. The regulation will allow Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama to select his own deputy governor.
"Let's hope that this regulation is effective immediately so that it can be used for proposing deputy governor," said Djohermansyah. He said that the regulation contains two important points; the number of deputy governor allowed, and a provision stating that a deputy governor can be appointed from non-civil servant individuals.
As a consequence, a deputy governor can be selected from academician, journalist, or entrepreneur.
Ahok, however, is likely to select a civil servant, as he believed that there are still a number of decent and more than capable officials. Ahok's statement has led to an interpretation that he is going to pick Sarwo Handayani as his deputy, a name he often cited when Ahok is making a statement.
