TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police's traffic operation codenamed 'Zebra Jaya', which is scheduled to run between Wednesday, November 26 until December 9, 2014, has netted thousands of offenders in its' first day, which includes those who deliberately went against the supposed raffic direction, as well as public transport operators who allowed passengers to alight in places other than their designated spots.
As per Wednesday, 3:00 PM Jakarta time, Jakarta Police's Directorate General of Traffic have issued at least 3,930 violation tickets and 1,485 warning letters to traffic offenders across the capital.
Around 1,532 driving licenses were confiscated, along with 2,349 vehicle registration documents (STNK). Furthermore, 48 motorcycles and one car were impounded during the operation.
Jakarta Police records show that there were 3,930 traffic violations during the first day of the operation, which resulted in the fining of 86 buses, 272 microbuses, 219 taxis, 173 vans, 50 Metro Minis, as well as 357 private cars and a whopping 2,773 motorcycles.
Operation 'Zebra Jaya' is currently targeting public transport operators who picks up and drop off passengers at locations other than their designated stops, which accounts for 411 violations, as well as motorists who goes against the traffic direction, of which there were 790 violations.
Throughout the operation on Wednesday, there were seven traffic incidents which involved eight motorists across Jakarta. There were two fatalities, two severe injuries, as well as 4 minor injuries from the incidents, with material damages totalling Rp23 million, according to Jakarta Police records.
The seven traffic incidents noted by the Police involved two motorcycles, two public transportation, three private cars, one commercial van, one bus, and a cyclist.
