TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester City got to keep their Champions League hope, after defeating Bayern Muenchen 3-2 in Etihad Stadium.
Playing before thousands of home fans, the Citizens had the upperhand in the 20th minute when referee brandished a red-card for Benatia for a harsh tackle in penalty area. Sergio Aguero stepped up to score a goal from penalty spot; 1-0 for City.
Despite playing with fewer men on the pitch, Muenchen managed to score an equalizer from former Madrid player Xabi Alonso. Muenchen were even ahead in the first half courtesy to Robert Lewandowski’s goal.
On the second half, however, Muenchen began to lose their breath. Taking the momentum, Aguero scored two more goals in the end of the second half, all within 10 final minutes.
The victory helped Manchester City maintain their chance to qualify to the knockout round, collecting 5 points from 5 matches. City’s true fate will be decided on the final group match, as the other two teams CSKA Moscow and AS Roma all collect the same points.
