TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thailand government stopped the screening of Hollywood film entitled ‘Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1’ in the country after opponents of the country's military rule adopted a three-finger salute from the movie as a sign of defiance.
“Police pressured the theatres to halt showings of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1that was due to open in theatres on Thursday,” an activist said as reported by Sydney Morning Herald on Friday.
Since Thursday, newspapers in Bangkok had printed on their front pages photos of students giving the salute. It was done to show disappointment after the leader of the coup Prayuth Chan-ocha was appointed Prime Minister.
In the Hunger Games movie, the three-finger salute is used by protagonist Katniss Everdeen to rise the spirit of rebellion against ruling Capitol government led by President Coriolanus Snow.
Since the coup on May, Thai junta has been strictly limiting and banning anything that could "provoke" and "giving them to think". At least 200 sites, tv stations, and radio broadcasting has been blocked by junta to suppress protests.
