TEMPO.CO, Washington - The White House has fired the United States Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, following an immense pressure on his failure in putting an end to the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group. Hagel filed his resignation after meeting President Barack Obama last week.
In what the Guardian cited as an awkward ceremony, Obama went out of his way to list Hagel's achievements, praising Hagel's work in "helping build the international coalition" against the Islamic State. "Thanks to Chuck, our military is on a firmer footing engaged in these missions and looking ahead to the future," said Obama.
Hagel began his career as a army soldier, deployed deep in Vietnam forest during the war. Putting aside Hagel's short term as Defense Secetary, the White House is now looking at a replacement, with several names such as Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed, former Deputy of Defense Secretary Asthon Carter, and former Defense Secretary Official Michele Fluornoy being named as possible candidates.
