TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Jakarta Police unraveled a prison-based meth syndicate. Run from inside the Cipinang Penitentiary, West Jakarta Police Chief Fadil Imran claimed that a convict was in charge of all the operation.
Fadil said that the police had arrested seven persons acting as dealer, stash manager, courier, and recipient. The police also confiscated 12.6 kilograms of meth and Rp114 million in cash. "It was George Obina, a convict in the Cipinang prison, that was pulling the strings," said Fadil.
After arresting the suspects in different places that led to Obina's involvement, police are now still in search of four other fugitives. The arrested suspects are subject to Article 114 law No. 35/2009 on Drugs, with a maximum sentence of a lifetime. As for Obina, Fadil said that his jail time will be added to the jail sentence he is serving now.
