Jakarta Motorbike Ban Trial Run to Start in December 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency Muhammad Akbar said that the no-motorbike policy in protocol streets is set to kick off on December 17. "All protocol streets will be forbidden for motorbikes," said Akbar.
The trial will take place on Jalan M.H. Thamrin and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. After evaluation, the policy will likely to be applied on all protocol streets in Jakarta on January. “Therefore, motorbikes are not allowed to pass through Jalan Sudirman, Gatot Subroto, and S. Parman," he said.
Moreover, he said that the reason why the trial takes place at M.H. Thamrin and Medan Merdeka Barat because those streets have public transportation facilities. Akbar also said that the policy is expected to reduce the number of accidents. "Motorbikes are not for long-distance or commuter," he said.
