TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More floods are predicted to inundate the capital again as Jakarta and its surrounding areas see more rain.
"The possibility of flooding remains high, especially since more rain have been predicted, not only for Jakarta but also for its vicinity," said the Head of Informations at Jakarta's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Endang Achadiat, in Jakarta on Monday.
Endang called on Jakarta's residents to remain vigilant of possible inundation, especially those who reside around low areas in the capital. He also called on residents to be more pro-active in partaking in efforts to prevent floods in their local areas - for example, by dredging their own sewers and by not dumping rubbish in Jakarta's drainages and waterways - as well as to secure their valuable belongings to prevent theft or damages.
Furthermore, Endang also called on residents of flood-prone areas to be especially prepared to evacuate once BPBD dispatches a warning alert to affected residents via text messages. "We'll continue to observe the situation on the ground, and we've also dispatched a number of quick-response teams to assist with evacuation efforts if the floods return," he said.
