AKR to Build Independent City in Manado

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT AKR Corporindo, through its subsidiary company PT AKR Land Development, has earmarked Rp3 trillion (US$250 million) to develop an independent city and business center in eastern Indonesia.
“We have prepared a land with a size of more than 300 hectares in Manado to build a central business district (CBD),” AKR Land Development managing director Widijanto told Tempo on Saturday, November 22, 2014.
For the first phase, AKR will develop an independent city called Grand Kawanua International City, with a size of 180 hectares. Widijanto said the investment value for the project reached Rp1 trillion (US$83.3 million). According to Widijanto, economy in Manado is growing as the number of foreign tourists visiting the region is increasing significantly.
“We want Kawanua to become an independent city, just like Bumi Serpong Damai in Tangerang,” Widijanto added.
The Grand Kawanua will not only have housings, but also hotels, town houses, shopping centers and commercial areas. The Grand Kawanua will also feature convention centers, 18-hole golf course, tennis court, pool, international hospital and national and international school.
After hotels, the developing will build about 4,000 houses with prices ranging from Rp400 million (US$33,000) to Rp1.3 billion (US$108,000).
