TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Operator of Manggarai water gate's sluice Adie Widodo said that there would be two benefits after the third sluice at Manggarai water gate has been constructed.
According to Adie, the third sluice would be used to channel more water to the West Flood Canal. He also said that the two existing sluices could only channel 3300 meter cubic of water per second.
"The first benefit once the third sluice has been finished is that the Manggarai water gate can channel 507 cubic meter of water per second,” he said on Thursday, 20 November 2014.
The second benefit, Adie said, is that the amount of floodwater would be reduced.
He cited an example of an area inundated with floodwater of up to 10 meters would be reduced to 3 to 5 meters with the new sluice.
"The floodwater will quickly recede,” he said.
Adie added that once the construction of the sluice has been completed, floods in the upstream areas liken Kalibata would quickly receded.
For the record, the construction of the third sluice at Manggarai water gate began in 2012.
Initially, it was scheduled to be finished in June earlier this year but as of today, the construction is still under way.
