South Jakarta Deploys 740 Volunteers to Anticipate Floods

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 740 volunteers comprising of government officials, community members and those from other institutions, have been deployed to help residents of Bukit Duri, South Jakarta, for evacuation in case of floods.
“There are 48 people from the government, 10 from other institutions including non-commissioned officers (Babinsa), and others from community units,” Didin Saifudin, of the evacuation team members, told Tempo on Saturday, November 22, 2014.
In addition to the volunteers, Bukit Duri village has prepared seven shelters to be used by refugees, including those in Village administration office and At Thahrir mosque. The shelters can accommodate up to 4,000 refugees.
The authorities has also prepared five soup kitchens, four health services center, two ambulances, three rubber boats, and other equipments.
