TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political observer Syamsuddin Haris said Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama should be fully authorized to appoint a deputy governor.
“Political parties should not interfere with Ahok’s authority with their interest,” Syamsuddin told Tempo on Friday, November 21, 2014.
According to Haris, political parties’ role should be limited to proposing candidate names and let Ahok to pick the name that he sees fit.
Earlier, Ahok said that he was waiting for the government to issue a regulation on deputy governor appointment. Based on Article 170, the Government Regulation in lieu of Law Number 1/2014, governors are allowed to appoint and inaugurate their own deputy.
Syasuddin said that he did not have an ideal figure qualified as Ahok’s deputy. However Syamsuddin hopes that Ahok will soon find a deputy who can work with him to address problems in Jakarta.
