North Jakarta Prepares 200 Volunteers to Overcome Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Jakarta Social Department is preparing to face flood threat in six sub-districts. Chief of North Jakarta Social Department, Ika Lestari Adji, said that flood alert have been established in six subdistricts for this rainy season.
“We have prepared 200 trained volunteer workers to overcome flood and help with the evacuation later on,” Ika told Tempo on Thursday, November 20.
Those six subdistricts are: Koja, Tanjung Priok, Kelapa Gading, Muara, Penjaringan and Cilincing. From the six sub-districts, dangerous areas are spread throughout 12 villages: Penjaringan, Kapuk Muara, Rorotan, Marunda, Pademangan Barat, Ancol, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Sunter Jaya, Pegangsaan Dua, Tugu Selatan and Sukapura.
The local government have also trained several residents to prepare public kitchen—if flood occur—which will be spread throughout refuges. “We’ve also prepared logistics such as 50 tons of rice for December, besides cooking oil and instant noodles. Mattress, pillows and tents have also been prepared as well. From our experience, refugees will be focused in Mosque, flats and village offices,” Ika said.
The City Administration of North Jakarta has prepared steps to minimize flood in its area. “We have cleaned irigation canals,” she said.
