TEMPO.CO, Malang - Thirteen teams from various universities in Indonesia had participated in the National Drone Competition at Brawijaya University on November 19 to November 20, 2014.
"Scoring is based on aerography and aerobatic [aspects]," said Ade Cahyo Utomo, chief of the event's committee, on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
Aerographically, a drone, or also known as quart-copter, must be able to pass through obstacles and record pictures of an object below them, while aerobatic drone must get through lined up iron poles. The airspace for the drones was restricted for the competition. It turns out that many drones did not fly smoothly during the competition.
Some drones were having a hard time maintaining their heading due to gusts of wind while some drones were suddenly broken and could not fly. However, the participants kept trying their best to pass through the obstacles.
Team from Gadjah Mada University spent around Rp 9 million to build their drone. The funds were spent to buy tools such as propeller, camera, remote control and KKV2 mainboard.
