TEMPO.CO, Gombi - The Nigerian military has successfully freed the towns of Gombi, Pelia and Hong from Boko Haram insurgents.
"The Nigerian troops in their daring exploit have taken full control of more communities in Adamawa State, including Gombi, Pelia and Hong," the message on Nigeria's defense authority read as reported by Nigerian Bulletin on Friday, November 21, 2014.
"The ongoing military operations in the North-Eastern Nigeria is to clear all areas infested by terrorists," the message added.
Local residents also acknowledged the military's success, saying that the military worked together with local hunters and volunteers of the Joint Task Force to drive out Boko Haram.
The fight resulted in at least 10 soldiers and scores of Boko Haram militants dead.
The military will join other volunteers in Nigeria's northern region to hunt down Boko Haram, who fled from Maiha and Mubi after being pursued. "They planned to advance to Yola," said Philip James, secretary of the local hunters in Adamawa.
The military has previously freed Chibok from Boko Haram. They also claimed to have captured some members for information regarding the conditions of more than 200 abducted school girls in a hidden location.
