TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta Social Agency is preparing for potential floods in six districts. North Jakarta Social Sub-agency chief Ika Lestari Adji, said that flood alert will be imposed in six districts during the rainy season.
"We have prepared 200 trained volunteers to cope with the effects of flood and help in evacuation," Ika told Tempo on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
The six districts are Koha, Tanjung Priok, Kelapa Gading, Pademangan, Muara Penjaringan, and Cilincing. From those six districts, flood-prone areas are spread in 12 sub-districts, namlely Penjaringan, Kapuk Muara, Rorotan, Marunda, Pademangan Barat, Ancol, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Sunter Jaya, Pegangsaan Dua, Tugu Selatan and Sukapura.
She said that the regional government has also trained some residents to set up food distribution center in evacuation sites. "We have also prepared logistics such as 50-tons of rice, cooking oil and instant noodles, in addition to bedding items such as mattresses, pillows and tents," said Ika.
Because flood in North Jakarta spreads evenly to almost all areas, evacuation sites will be focused on areas with high elevation. "We’ve focused on evacuating refugees in mosques, apartments and sub-district office," she said.
