Over 1,000 Sumatera Miners Owe Rp432.9bn in Royalties

TEMPO.CO, Palembang – The government is collecting contributions and royalties from mining companies in Sumatra. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted there are 1,895 mineral and coal mining license holders that have not paid their debts to the state, which totals at Rp432.9 billion.
"The receivables come from mines in South Sumatra, Jambi, Bangka-Belitung, and Riau Islands," the energy Ministry's director general of mineral and coal, R. Sukhyar, said in Palembang yesterday.
According to Sukhyar, the debts must be paid at the end of December 2014. Otherwise, the government will list the miners in the non-clear and clean category.
Speaking before participants of the monitoring and evaluation for mineral and coal mining, Sukhyar said that as of November 19, 2014, there were 10,657 IUP holders in Indonesia, of which 5,933 have been declared clear and clean.
