TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Social Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa claimed that Indonesia hosts 6 millions new underprivileged people as a result of the fuel price increase. "If the increase was Rp 500, there would be 1.5 million new underprivileged people. Given that the increase is Rp 2,000, we now have 6 million new underprivileged people – no intervention," said Khofifah.

Khofifah said that a family consists of four to five persons has a consumptive ability of Rp 155,000 per month. Therefore, the government decided to provide Rp 200,000 counter-subsidy per household to support their need.

However, Khofifah is yet to confirm when the aid is going to stop. He said that the time limit proposed by each related minister is different, ranging from April to November 2015.

"We have to wait for the president to make [the decision]," he said.
