TEMPO.CO, Moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin said the United States will never be able to subdue Russia. Responding to a question whether the US was trying to humiliate Russia, Putin said that the US wanted "to solve their problems at our expense."
"Throughout history, no one has ever managed to [subdue] Russia – and no one ever will," Putin said at a forum of the All-Russia Peoples' Front in Moscow last Tuesday.
The Russian leader said that the US had succeeded in influencing its allies - with such countries "trying to protect foreign interests on obscure conditions and perspectives." One of the measure was to applying pressure on Russia is by using the Ukrainian crisis.
Several observers said that Putin's statement was conveyed in response to the pressure applied towards Russia during the G20 Summit in Brisbane, Australia, last week. The US and other Western leaders demanded Russia not to interfere in Ukraine or more sanctions will be imposed.
US President Barack Obama even described Russia as a threat to the world and its actions in Ukraine was horrible. British Prime Minister David Cameron, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott also condemned Russia.
