Missing Miss Honduras Found Dead

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Believed to be kidnapped, Miss Honduras 2014 Maria Jose Alvarado were discovered dead after celebrating a birthday party with her sister, Sofia Trinidad, a week after reported missing by the police. Maria and Sofia's bodies were found buried in a remote spa yard in the area of Santa Barbara, California.

The perpetrator is the sister's boyfriend. He confessed killing them in a jealous rage over his girlfriend dancing with another man, according to AFP news on Thursday, November 20, 2014.

According to the perpetrator, Plutarco Ruiz, both girls were shot in a remote gravesite. Ruiz fired at Sofia first and then at Maria as she tried to flee. She was shot twice in the back.

Maria's body was found Wednesday morning in a remote mountainous area, about 400 kilometers west of the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa.

Maria Jose Alvarado was named Miss Honduras last April and will represent her country in Miss World 2014 in London. The Miss Honduras committee will not be participating in the contest in honoring Maria.
