Govt Seeks to Control Inflation Rate at 2.58 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is planning to mitigate the impact of subsidized fuel price increase on inflation rate to be as much as 2.58 percent, Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil said on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
According to Sofyan, the impact of the fuel price increase on the inflation rate would last for the next three months before a readjustment.
Sofyan added that the government is currently focusing on addressing issues with an increasing public transportation tariff as a result of the fuel price increase. The tariff hike for city transportation is regulated local governments. Therefore, Sofyan asked Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo to call on regional heads to set an ideal tariff hike in their own areas.
"The Home Affairs Minister is taking steps to control [public] transport tariff increase," Sofyan said.
Earlier, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs had held a meeting to discuss measures to control inflation rate with Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan and Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo. The meeting was also attended by Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo, and Director General of Domestic Trade Srie Agustina.
