President Jokowi Inaugurates Ahok as Governor of Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has officially appointed Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama as the Governor of Jakarta. The inauguration took place at the Presidential Palace earlier today at 13:00 Western Indonesia Time, in the presence of several ministers and former state officials.
"I pledge to fulfill my duty as the governor of Jakarta to as best and as wise as I can, while referring to the constitution and all existing regulations," said Ahok. After the inauguration, President Jokowi congratulated Ahok, his former deputy in Jakarta, giving him a pat on the shoulder.
A number of high ranking politicians also attend the ceremony, including Vice President Jusuf Kalla and his wife Mufidah Kalla. Chairwoman of the National Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri, along with some cabinet ministers, namely Oesman Sapta Odang, Puan Maharani, Tjahjo Kumolo, Marwan Ja'far, and Andi Widjajanto, were also in present in the event.
