TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo’s decision to increase fuel prices had reaped protests from college students. Scores of students dubbing themselves as the Big Family of Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic University took to the street to reject the president’s decision.
Protest coordinator Bachroin said rising fuel prices was a bad start for the Jokowi-Jk leadership. “When crude oil prices drop, the Jokowi-JK administration increases the fuel prices instead,” he said.
He also said the decision did not side with the people, and that the government should have worked on a way out, such as curbing the number of private vehicles, which mostly belonged to the rich.
“We strongly oppose the fuel price hike, which will make the people’s life miserable. If the government proceeds with this policy, there is no other option but ousting the Jokowi-JK regime,” he said.
