SBY: Govt Owes People Explanation of Rising Fuel Prices

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla had informed political party chairmen prior to the announcement of fuel price hike last night. Former President and Democrat Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) claimed that VP Kalla had informed him an hour before the actual announcement took place.

SBY, through his twitter account, said that fuel price hike is government authority. However, he said that the government owes an explanation to the people, specifically upon the compensation for the underprivileged community.

"If the compensation budget is taken from the State Budget, the government needs to explain to the House as a form of responsibility," SBY said.

Last night in Yogyakarta, the Functional Group (Golkar) Chairman Aburizal Bakrie claimed to have been informed about the fuel price hike. Aburizal said that his party needed to respond the fuel price hike in the national meeting. He also questioned VP Kalla about the number of subsidy provided to both premium and diesel fuel.
