TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Denpasar prison of class IIA located in Kerobokan, Bandung Regency, Bali is auctioning paintings made by its inmates, Antara reported.
“The yield from the auction will be given to them and some of it will go to the state’s account,” said Head of Class IIA Denpasar, Sudjonggo, said on Saturday.
The auction was held in the Norwegian Gateaway College, a special campus for Norwegian students in Jimbaran. According Sudjonggo, the auction was the initiative raised by the students.
Sudjonggo asserted that the money earned in the auction would not be used to fund the training programs in the prison since the institution has its own budget.
“We also want to prove that our inmates are truly talented artists,” said Sudjonggo.
The prison is planning to exhibit their works in front of consulates based in Bali.
