TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) will open a new factory in Karawang, West Java. With the opening of this fourth factory, its expected that AHM’s production capacity will increase to becoming 5.3 million units a year.
“Our fourth motorcycle factory is scheduled to be inaugurated on December,” Executive Vice President PT AHM Johannes Loman, said in the Ministry of Industry on Tuesday, November 11.
Lohan says the new company’s investment value is worth Rp3.3 trillion with a production capacity of 1.1 million units a year. The value will increase production capacity of PT AHM from 4.2 million units to 5.3 million units a year.
Aside from fulfilling domestic market needs, the factory is projected to fulfill export needs to several countries. Unfortunately, Loman is reluctant to mention which countries the company targets.
Indonesia’s market potential for motorcycle is quite high (From 7.9 to 8 million units per year). Therefore, Honda targets domestic sales to reach five million units per year or around 65 percent from the national market share.
