TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Five nuclear engineers were killed when their bus was ambushed by unknown assailants north of Damascus, near a nuclear research facility where they worked as researchers.
"A number of unknown assailants has killed five nuclear engineers who worked at our scientific research facility near Barzeh district, north of Damascus," said Rami Abdel Rahman, the director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"Their bus was ambushed when they were en route to the research centre. The assailants executed them," explained Rami.
Last year in July, six people who worked at the same research centre was killed in a mortar attackby militias who demanded President Bashar al-Assad to step down.
It is known that other, similar military research centres at the outskirts of Damascus were destroyed by a deadly Israeli offensive in May 2013.
