TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said that the Islamic Defender Front (FPI) failed to show the true Islamic nature, as it emphasizes more on anarchy rather than discussion. “They humiliated Islam as they don’t show Islam as rahmatan lil alamin (a blessing for the universe),” said Ahok.
Ahok added that the anarchist trait often caused friction and riot. Therefore, he plans to issue a recommendation to dismiss FPI to the Legal and Human Rights Ministry.
Previously, FPI held a demonstration before the regional House of Jakarta to oppose Ahok as the governor of Jakarta, particularly because his being non-Moslem. FPI threatened the House, saying that it will create an opposing side at the House and elect Fahrurroziq Ishaq as governor.
The police have also said that FPI’s provocative gesture can be of criminal charges. “The statement can be charges, if Ahok feels that it is disadvantaging,” said Metro Police spokesman Rikwanto. "However, he has to file a report on it.”
