TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said that he will stop using motorcade escort (Voorijder) from the Transportation Agency on his way from and to the City Hall.
The decision was taken because many officials in the Jakarta provincial government misuse the escort from the Transportation Agency and the police. "I see that mayors have started using escort," said Ahok on Monday, November 10, 2014.
Ahok hoped that other officials would follow his action. The ban on using voorijder is also applied to reduce traffic jam. Ahok added that Transportation Agency and the police should escort fire trucks, ambulance and double-decker buses that will become part of the supporting transportation in the implementation of the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) program.
Ahok asserted that ministers in the Working Cabinet should also do the same because many ministers use police escort that reduces the number of police officers that regulate road traffic. "If all officials ask for police escort, there will be no more police officers," said Ahok.
