TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration is set to change the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) system into a scholarship for selected students in 2015, as reported by Antara News.
Currently, all students from poor families are entitled to KJP cards. With them, students are able to receive educational support from the city administration in the form of money. The money can be used to buy textbooks and uniforms. The amount varies in each level of school.
Acting Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said that he was currently preparing instructions to regulate the scholarship system.
“Next year, homeroom teachers will be responsible for choosing the students eligible to receive scholarships from the city administration. We’re currently preparing the regulations. Only students who do not smoke, who do not get into brawls [...] can receive the scholarship,” Ahok told reporters at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Thursday. He said only students who deserve the support would receive it.
