TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Mahendra Siregar, former chief of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), said Indonesia and other countries in G20 are in mutual need of each other.
"The G20's priority is relevant to what the Indonesian government is targeting such as reducing unemployment rate, eliminating trade barriers and increasing infrastructure investment," Mahendra spoke at the 'Indonesia in the G-20 Era: What Has Been Achieved and the Agenda Forward' event in Jakarta, Thursday.
According to Mahendra, Indonesia needs to be actively involved in G20 meetings, in order to bring the state's interests—and other developing countries'—to an international forum.
"Indonesia had voiced the importance of improving infrastructure investment and turning that as one of the main discussion topics in G20 and other global meetings,” he said.
The recent G20 meeting was quite beneficial for Indonesia as President Joko Widodo was able to meet with 20 state leaders early in his term.
"The most important thing is for Indonesia to remain consistent in its commitments while facing growing global economic challenges," he said.
