TEMPO.CO, Bekasi – Azahra Wulandari, a one-year-old infant, has died of malnutrition in Bekasi regency. Earlier, Azahra’s parents were forced to take her home from a hospital due to financial constraints.
Azahra passed away on Tuesday night, November 4, 2014 at her home in Kampung Siluman, Mangunjaya village, Tambun Selatan district, Bekasi regency. “After she was taken home, she died at 10.15 p.m.” said Hajj Saban, a local public figure, on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.
Saban explained Azahra parents took her daughter home as they did not have enough money to cover her medical expenses at the hospital, which reached Rp7.5 million daily.
“They weren’t even allowed to take her home, because they were asked to pay off the debt first,” he said, adding that the village chief had given his official car as collateral to the hospital.
The village chief, Idi Rohidi, said Azahra’s parents took her to a private hospital as there was no available room left at the Bekasi Regional General Hospital (RSUD).
“But allowing for her dire condition, Azahra was then taken to a private hospital for immediate care,” he said.
