ESDM Minister Removes Oil and Gas Chief

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said had deactivated Oil and Gas director general Edy Hermantoro beginning Tuesday, November 4, 2014. According to Sudirman, Edy following the non-execution of multiple oil and gas programs.

Sudirman asserted it was not his intent to expose Edy’s removal to the media, and that the move was based on objective assessments, including reports from the Presidential Working Unit for the Supervision and Management of Development (UKP4).

Sudirman explained reports from the UKP4 had showed that many oil and gas projects had stalled, which impacted on the industry.

Sudirman said he had signed a letter to appoint Naryanto Wagiman as the acting head for the Oil and Gas Directorate General, adding that the decision was part of his move to solve problems in the energy sector.

Naryanto Wagimin previously served as the director for upstream oil and gas at the directorate general, as well as the director for oil and gas programs.
