TEMPO.CO, Kupang - El Tari Kupang Airbase commander Col. Andi Wijaya said a Saudi aircraft that was forced to land on El Tari Adi Sucipto Kupang airbase on Monday, November 3, 2014, because it was suspected not having the necessary credentials.
"The aircraft was forced to land by two Sukhoi planes from Makassar," said Andi.
The Saudi aircraft was detected by radar and was chased by two Sukhoi planes at 14:30 local time.
The two Sukhoi planes caught the Saudi aircraft 82 miles (around 150 kilometers) from Kupang. "[The plane] was escorted to Kupang. It hadn't reached Indonesia-Australia's border region," Andi added.
The plane, which is a Gulfstream, was piloted by Waleed Abdul Azis. Waleed is still being detained at El Tari Airport while waiting for interrogation result of the plane crews.
