TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Normalization of the Pluit reservoir is set to begin order to prepare for the upcoming rainy season. The dredging of the reservoir will begin next week after residents’ houses located by the reservoir have been torn down.
"The residents have expressed their willingness to relocate to the low-cost apartments (provided by the city government). It means we can accelerate normalizing the reservoir,” said Heriyanto, Coordinator of Jakarta Reservoir and River Normalization, Friday, October 31, 2014.
Heriyanto said that it is expected that by November, all illegal buildings located in the western part of the dam will have been demolished. He said also that a 2.5-kilometer of inspection road will be built in the location and the current road, which measures 4 meter wide, will be widened to 7.5 meters.
"The widening of the road is done to make it easier for dredging machines to get in and out of the dam,” he added.
Heriyanto further said that starting November until the next two months, the dredging will be intensified in order to add the capacity of the dam so that during the rainy season, the dam will be able to hold more water and reduce the risks of flooding.
