TEMPO.CO, Ouagadougou - Tens of thousands of protesters continue to fill the streets of Ouagadougou, demanding the resignation of Burkina Faso's long-ruling President Blaise Compaore, after 27 years of power.
"We want Blaise Compaore to leave. We want change," said George Sawadogo, a 23-year-old student, as reported by Reuters, Friday, 31 October 2014.
Since Thursday, October 30, 2014, crowds of people stormed the streets. They are furious at the government’s plan to change the constitution to allow the president to stand for a third term next year after leading the country for the past 27 years.
The situation urged Campaore to announce a state of emergency on the nation. Army Chief of Staff General HonoreTraore said that the new government would be installed after a consultation with all political parties. He also announced a curfew for the area.
The new government would lead the country to an election within 12 months. It is still unclear however whether Campaore will remain in power or not.
