TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Police have seen a drop in drug cases in the capital by around 2,000 cases than last year's.
“Because we have managed to suppress the international network,” said Sr. Comr. Eko Daniyanto, the director of the Jakarta Police anti-drugs unit, on Thursday, October 30, 2014.
The police recorded a total of 3,755 drug cases until September compared to last year’s 5,042. “I am optimistic that by the end of the year, the number could be reduced from last year,” Eko said.
Eko said the police were confident the previous arrests of members of international gambling networks from China, Hong Kong and Nigeria would lead to lower number of drug cases in the capital.
He added there were 56 drug cases involving foreigners or international syndicates last year, while 2014 only saw 53 cases.
