TEMPO.CO, Kobane - The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has released 25 Kurdish students previously kidnapped in Aleppo last May, according to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights.
Xinhua reported that the released hostages were part of 150 Kurdish students captured by ISIS fighters last May in the town of Manbej in Aleppo after finishing their exams. ISIS, however, kept others in captivity due to having relation to the members of the Kurdish Democratic Union (PYD), ISIS' nemesis.
The kidnapped students were oroginated from the Kurdish city of Kobane, where intense battles have been raging since over a month ago between the ISIS fighters and the Kurdish militants. Had Kobane fallen into ISIS, the militants will be able to march its way to Raqqa and launch attacks to Turkey.
