TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Culture and Elementary and Secondary Minister Anies Baswedan said the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) is among his ministry's priority programs. “This is one of the government’s priorities at the moment," said Anies.
The KIP was part of President Joko Widodo's visions and missions during his presidential campaign. The program is aimed at helping the deprived in school ages.
Unlike the scholarships for the poor program, known as the BSM, the KIP covers a wider scope as it is not confined to poor students but all of those in school ages.
Anies said the KIP could be handed to those living in the street, thus allowing them to enjoy formal and informal education.
He added, however, there were still plenty of issues to be discussed about the KIP, including "its distribution and quantity."
Anies said he would coordinate with related ministries regarding this program. "Therefore, we need to work on the concept," he said.
